The artwork is inspired by an antique photo technique called chronophotography, that is a set of photographs of a moving object taken to record and exhibit successive phases of motion. Specifically, it represents a light art interpretation of Étienne-Jules Marey’s ‘Man running’ chronophotography, c.1880.
The image shows body parts such as heads, arms and legs, placed in similar consecutive positions to manifest and analyse the movement of human body while running.
The installation is made out of a steel construction frame with illuminated plastic elements representing mannequins from retail stores, thus addressing the issue of their mass production, connecting this installation to the curatorial concept of the festival.
